The main advantage of Areca controllers is the sophisticated outband management. The Areca RAID controllers are equipped with a separate Ethernet port and the controller can be easily accessed via a web interface or command line over the LAN (out-band-management). SAP (Single Admin Portal) allows the management of multiple ARECA controllers within a single network from a single administration console.
Areca controllers can be administered via the built-in McBIOS manager available at boot time or via the McRAID manager with its own web console that allows local and remote field creation and modification, status monitoring.
Other advantages are support for SNMP traps, which the controller sends in a "human" readable form and support for SNMP MIB tree for reading logged data using third party tools (Nagios)
